Ihave a 1989 chevy silverado 1500 4x4 truck with a 10 bolt 342 rearend and I want to change it to a 14 bolt 342 rearend. My only concern is will the drive shaft fit without any modifications. I was told everything else should work. Is the info I recieved correct that every thing else will hook up without any changes and will I need to modifiy the drive shaft.
Thanks for your help

Your vehicle came factory with 4 GM differential options.
7.5 inch. 7.625 inch. 8.5 and 9.5 inch.
There were also 2 Dana options: 9.75 and 10.5 inch.

Measure both old and intended new differentials from front of yoke to front edge of axle tubes. Measure width if axle housings from backing plate to backing plate. Measure mounting locations. Lastly, measure yoke tilt, the angle the housing and yoke make.

The information I gave you is information I would have had to look up or determine in order to determine whether or not what you want to do will work. My reference material and specialty is repair. Same with most of the rest of my colleagues here. For a parts interchange, you need to call either a dealership or a junkyard, as they have that kind of information at their fingertips. The only information I have is repair, not upgrades or modification.
