is that oil light showing oil pressure as well as the oil level? My friend is working on the car for me...

no....and yes. i mean if light is out you have oil pressure and that means the oil level is sufficient for pump not to lose prime. however, technically speaking, the light is not designed as an oil level indicator directly.
