Why is it when I go to crank it, it won't turn over but sometimes it will start right up no problem

Sometimes it will start right up and after I have driven it and turn off and then go to leave it won't turn over run? It's a hit and miss deal. It's gone a weekend without turning all the way over also. It's getting worse and if it dies on me from jumping clutch too fast it won't start back up.
