86 GT WONT STAY RUNNING WITHOUT REVING THE ENGINE
1986 Pontiac Fiero • 110,000 miles
I own an 4 spd 86 fiero gt and I have little knowledge of common problems with them. Please bare with me when I describe the issues ive been having lately. Ok so my fiero was running fine until a couple weeks ago when I noticed that the engine was idling roughly. I got it inspected and the mechanic told me that I was running rich. This was about a month ago. Since then the idling became even worse to the point that it will kill the engine if I take my foot off the gas (very annoying when youre car dies at every stop sign and light you pull up to). My fiero will start up just fine so I know its not an ignition problem but if I dont rev the engine it will cut off. It also makes a really bad smell if I drive for more than 10 minutes. Kinda like something is over heating? Not sure though. Like I said, the car is still driveable but ONLY if I keep my foot on the gas (unless im shifting). Also if im on the road and driving and let off the gas the car jerks as the rpms lower. Any ideas would be very much appreciated due to the fact that its my daily driver.
