I Have a 1986 Honda accord. I beleave I am having altornator issues because the electronics started tweaking out and occasionally i hear a squeling and smell burnt rubber allong with my battery now being dead. my question is is that signs of a specific problem with the altornator that can b fixed without removing the altornator completly or not?

charge the battery first and make sure it is good-auto parts stores check these for free. then check fuses 21 and 8 in the underhood fuse box. one is 70 amp then chec fuse 1 under dash fuse box. other than that then have belt checked for wear and tensioner.
