my 86 custom dodge ram 250 has dash lights that wont shut off and are constantly draining the battery. one for the headlights and one below the ignition. I have already jumped it and we have a charger but I am attempting to take the family on a long trip and worried this problem will continue. please advise, thank you.

Is there a dimmer control on the headlamp switch, if so, turn it down, see if dash lites go out. The voltage for the dash lites should come from headlamp switch.

There is an illumination fuse in the box, pull the fuse till you fix the problem. Just make sure your exterior lamps work. My wiring diagram for your model year isnt that great.
