What would cause a rattle when engine is slowing down?

It is an '85 El Camino Conquista with the 4.3 liter V6 engine. when the engine accelerates, there is no problem. however, when the engine decelerates, it rattles. the rattle starts off fast and loud, but fades out as it slows, and isn't noticeable at idle rpm.

could be exhaust shields if it is external. other wise, you need someone with a trained ear to hear it for you and give you there opinion.
