I just put a new battery in my 1985 Chevy Caprice last week, now it won't even start. Someone said it might be the starter, we had the battery checked and it is ok, any suggestions before I go to a repair shop?

Assuming you're not getting a flashing security light when this happens, it could be anything in the starter circuit and would have to be troubleshooted by using a wiring diagram and a test light. You could try jumping power directly to the "S" terminal of the starter to test the starter itself.
