Removal
Remove cylinder head and distributor. Mount cylinder head assembly in a holding fixture. Remove oil drain pipe from top of head. Remove cold start valve.
Adjust valves to maximum clearance possible to relieve tension on camshaft. Attach compression frame and bracket (11 1 040) to compress rocker arms. Install short end of bracket towards exhaust valve side.
Remove thrust plate from cylinder head. Carefully remove camshaft from cylinder head.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. After guide plate has been installed, camshaft should be easy to rotate. Make sure that notch in camshaft flange aligns with cast tab on cylinder head.
Adjust valves. Ensure oil drainage pipe seals are properly positioned. Turn rotor counterclockwise about 1 3/8" from notch in distributor housing.
Guide distributor drive into mesh with camshaft drive. Make sure rotor aligns with notch in distributor housing. Install remaining components.
