Our 17 year old bought this car 2 weeks ago from a Porsche fanatic who fixes them up and sells them. It initially started all of the time, no matter what. Then if it sat in the hot sun (85+ degrees) for more than an hour, it wouldn't even crank at all. Then after it cooled off outside, it would start up no problem. Today, though, even after it cooled off it wouldn't crank. We tried a different DME relay, and it started one more time, then nothing, so no real difference. We tried tapping the starter then starting, no difference. We checked the main air flow on the engine and tried starting the car with it unplugged, no difference. Any ideas on how to figure out what the problem is?

Access the starter solenoid trigger wire then use a test light while a helper cranks it over. The trigger wire should light up, if so the starter is bad. If not we need to do some more troubleshooting. Please let me know.
