WHY WOULD THE CAR RUN FINE AT IDOL IN PARK AND THEN STOP LIKE THE KEY WAS TURNED OFF ?

1981 Lincoln Mark VI • 100,000 miles

It will not restart till it wants to, and there's no spark. Afew hours later it will start and run perfect !

Check fuel pressure. Check the ignition relay when the problem is occurring. Make sure the coil is receiving power. Make sure the ground side of the coil is being interrupted. Use a test light for this. It should flash. Check internal and external coil resistance when the problem is occurring.

REMOVE YOUR IGNITION MODULE (ON EITHER SIDE OF THE CONNECTORS GRASP THE WIRES AND PULL HARD (DIGGING W/ A SCREWDRIVER IS SORTA FRUITLESS) IF YOU PULL EVENLY ON THE BUNDLE OF WIRES, IT WILL COME APART AND YOU WON'T BREAK THE LOCKING TABS

THIS SHOULD BE WHAT YOURS LOOKS LIKE, IF I INSTALLED THE CORRECT VEHICLE INFO IN THIS LINK

OFF TO A POPULAR AUTO PARTS STORE, YOU GO....THEY USUALLY WILL TEST THESE FOR FREE

LETS WATCH AND SEE IF THEY HOOK UP RIGHT (IF YOU KINDA CAN READ THE CHART THEY ARE READING)

THEN HAVE THEM TEST IT 5-8 TIMES (THIS WILL WARM IT UP) SHOULD IT FAIL THE LAST FEW TESTS.....ANY THING LESS IS LAZINESS....AND YOU MIGHT SUFFER...NOT THEM!

WHAT IF IT FAILS?.............YES, REPLACE IT!

AS YOU PUT YOU HAND ON THEIR DOOR HANDLE TO LEAVE, WITH YOUR NEW ONE............

TURN YOUR BUTT RIGHT AROUND, GO BACK TO THE COUNTER, AND HAVE THEM TEST "THEIR" NEW ONE 5-8 TIMES.

I ANSWERED THIS AND ANOTHER QUESTION EARLIER--BOTH NEVER POSTED,--BUT NOW I'M GETTING NOTIFIED?????

LETS CHECK THAT IGNITION MODULE (MAINLY BECAUSE YOU SAID THERE IS NO SPARK AT TIMES)....AUTOZONE AND ADVANCE AUTO, BOTH TEST 'EM FOR FREE IN MY AREA!

LETS WATCH AND SEE IF THEY HOOK UP RIGHT (NORMALLY THEY EYEBALL A CHART.... TEST THE MODULE 5-8 TIMES (THIS WILL WARM IT UP) SHOULD IT FAIL THE LAST FEW........

YES, REPLACE IT!

AS YOU PUT YOU HAND ON THEIR DOOR HANDLE TO LEAVE, WITH YOUR NEW ONE............STOP!

DO AN ABOUT FACE, GO BACK TO THE COUNTER, AND HAVE THEM TEST "THEIR" NEW ONE 5-8 TIMES....REGARDLESS OF WHAT EXCUSE THEY PRESENT YOU WITH!

THEY ARE SUBJECTED TO A LOW RPM AND HIGH RPM TEST, AND OTHER STUFF ELECTRONICALLY I DO NOT UNDERSTAND.

THE BEST WAY TO UNHOOK THE MODULE, MAY SOUND LIKE YOU WOULD HURT THE WIRES. MY JEEP CJ 5 MANUAL SAYS GRASP THE WIRES ON EITHER SIDE OF THE CONNECTORS AND PULL THE WIRES HARD....THIS DOES WORK WELL, AND KEEPS YOU FROM DIGGING AT THE CONNECTOR WITH A SCREWDRIVER AND BREAKING OFF THE LOCKING TABS

HERE'S WHAT THE BEAST LOOKS LIKE...NOT REAL EXPENSIVE EITHER...I KEEP AN "EXTRA" IGNITION MODULE, COIL, AND A FUEL PUMP IN MY JEEP AT ALL TIMES, ALL ITEMS I HAVE HAD FAIL, IN THE WORST OF SITUATIONS!

LAST TIME IT HAD A MAJOR--ALL OUT TUNE-UP...TIMING, CARB ADJUST, ETC.???

FILTER PROBLEMS BACK AT THE RANCH----MIKE MUSTA JUST GOT IT FIXED--I THOUGHT I PUSHED THE WRONG BUTTON AND LOST IT ALL--SO I WROTE THIS AND ANOTHER NOVEL OVER FROM SCRATCH!

I JUST GOT 7 MESSAGES---5 WERE FROM AS FAR BACK AS OCTOBER---I EVEN GOT SCOLDED IN ONE, BY A BIG-GUY!--HAVE NO CLUE WHICH POST IT WAS REFERRING TO, OR WHO'S HACKLES I GOT UP! (I HAVE 2 REALLY GOOD CANDIDATES, THAT I KEEP THEIR FEMALE UNDERGARMENTS ALL TENSIONED UP CONSTANTLY!)
