I have a 1980 Chev van. When starting the engine cold it starts fine. When I drive for 10 minutes and turn the engine off it will not turn over again until everything cools down for about 1 hour. Recently installed reconditioned starter and new battery. Any ideas what to do now?

When the problem occurs, turn on the headlamps, turn key to crank, how do the lites react? If they go out or almost, usually the battery or cables. If the lites stay bright no reaction, open circuit to the starter. The purple wire at the starter should be hot with key in the crank position, is it?
