I ran out of oil in my 1980 chevy 350 and now have a knock in the rear left of the engine i put oil and didn't go away

Running out of oil is a bad thing. It causes things inside the engine to break. My guess is you flattened a cam lobe, or messed up a lifter, or spun a bearing.
