How do i set the timing on a 76 chevy nova with a L6 if its jumped timing?
I moved the number 1 piston into the up position with the mark on the harmonic balancer. checked and made sure that the distrbutor was on the number one and tried starting and nothing. its still turning over and blow back/ backfiring.

Have you done a compression test yet?That will tell you if your valve timing is off.Your cam sprocket could have worn out causing the cam timing to jump.
