Volkswagen Beetle Engine Problem
1971 vw super beetle heard pop then got really loud . drove to work little power on small hill fine on flat but would not start when came out

Look for a hole in the engine block... or oil leaking.
Could be that your engine seized.
Will she push / roll start? Try turning the engine by hand via the alternator pulley... key off, transmission in neutral.

Exhaust backfire could have blown a hole in the exhaust... but that should not keep it from cranking.
