Hi ok heres the deal I have a 70 440 6bbl Cuda with a 8 3/4 rearend. I have 4 center carriers for it 2 are nonposi units with 3.23 gears and 2 are suregrips units with 3.23 and 4.56 gears. When I run the nonposi 3.23 it works fine no problems but when I put the suregrip units in the rearend it will not move forward it will back up but thats it. When I put it up on jackstands the wheels will turn forward under power but when its on ground nothing. The rear has super stock springs moved in 3 inches per side and a 69 roadrunner house because its a few inches narrower. But like I said it only does this with the suregrip units in it. Have any ideas what may cause this?

Hi yep just read it. So these shafts are in the suregrip unit itself? Cause that means I have to pull the center section out again to see them. Or are you talking abot the little spacer in between the axles in center of it?

Hi Well I got it pulled and I figured it out finally. Since I was pulling it anyway I decided to put in another 69bbody housing I was preping and painting for it. When I got the other housing out and set it next to the new one I noticed it was bent and twisted. Im guessing that with the suregrip in and both axels turning one was binding in the bent tube but on jackstandsand no weight it had enough room to turn when it was on ground it had enough more flex to bind it up. With the non suregrip I suppose the bent tube axel wasnt turning or binding. I have a pretty good idea how I bent it too. On mothers day 2010 I did a major mega launch off a stret light (with no one around ) and broke a bunch of stuff in the driveline and motor im sure that was the cause. Im running a 501 in stroker motor with aluminum heads, crane gold roller rockers, 292 / 509 lift mopar purple shft cam and the six pack so its putting out more than enough power to bend that housing up. Ill probably add a top brace to the new housing before I install it. Just wish I woulda decided to put that housing in a few months ago so I coulda run the 4.56 suregrip at the drag strip. I thank you very much for the help with it and if it turns out it wasnt the problem I may be back for help on it or maybe help with one of my other cars. Thanks again and have a great day. Rob p.S. I included a pic thanks

This car is beautiful! I would love to have the old Super Bee back. Looking at this and thinking I now drive a 6cyl Dakota is really depressing (lol). Wow, have you ever had it dynoed? Factory it had 425HP. I can't imagine what you are pushing now. Actually, now I understand how you bent things. Take care and take care of the car. They don't make them like this anymore.

I have one last question for you. I love watching a show called Desert. I can't remember the name. Regardless, the guys go to a junk yard in AZ and pick a car to redo. They redid a 69 charger. It was junk, but beautiful when they finished. They took it to the strip and raced it against a new charger (2012). The new one only did a 16 sec quarter. The 69 did a 19 second quarter mile. I want to know what the hell they could have done to destroy that car. I can ride a bicycle that fast. The old Super Bee did high 13's with a 383 and a little work. If you can hook up, I would think you are in the low 12's.

Take care. Looking at this picture, I could talk for weeks.

Joe
PS: I'm glad you saw and were able to fix the problem.

Im Running 10 in wheels with mickey thompson DOT street slicks on it so it does hook up and it has super stock springs like a SOX & Martin Cuda drag car from the 70s.I actually used the Direct Connection chassi and engine manuals to build it and folled the recipe in there for a 11 sec car and actually they call for a 383 or 400 and a 4.30 rear gear I have 501 in and 4.56 so im hoping to get close to the 11s.I will know on oct 1st cause that is the last drag race of the year here at our strip. I will let you know what it runs. Thanks Rob
