I do not do this as a trade. I am a retired County worker. My father was a John Deere mechanic and I just picked up things from him over the years. I had many jobs. In the 70s after I got out of the navy I became a vw mechanic for 4 years. I usually did my own projects along with helping friends with there cars. My first car was a 1950 ford, then a 1957 ford sunliner, then a 1966 mercury comet, a 1969 chevelle ss 396, 72 oldmobile 442, various camaros and mustangs. Most work I did my self with help of friends. We were backyard mechanics. My latest project I finished was a 62 ford fairlane with a 302. This will probable be my last project.

I'm not a mechanic. I run a small head shop in Eastern Kansas. I've been doing this for over 30 years. It all started with me being a hot rodder. There is a lot of power to be had in the way a set of heads is rebuilt, and it was too expensive for me to afford as a teenager, so I started doing my own port & polish work... I've been doing it since.

Jeff, I worked in a head shop for just a short time. I was young then and they had me just strip the heads so they could be cleaned and readied for polishing. Got a better paying job with my father and left after a couple of months. My father always told me to think about things when and how they worked when put back together. Been tinkering around with cars for most of my life check out http://www.lov2xlr8.no/broch1.html
