1963 Ford Fairlane Repair Question

Ford Fairlane Battery Problem
I have a1963 Ford Fairlane 500, with a 302 cid, small block ford engine. It won't start. When I turn the key I get a rapid clicking noise. It will start with a jump. What is my problem ?
