Volvo 940 2.3 turbo diesel

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this slight problem I have with my volvo.

It used to start at the first turn of the key until about a week ago when I left it parked for a day came back to it at nighttime and it just wouldnt start it had to be given a jump start to get it going.

I have had several opinions on what could be the problem from glow plugs to something called a cold start valve I have even had suggestions that maybe the glow plug regulator could have went bust does anyone have any idead theres plenty of compression in the engine and when I have the car going it starts first time no problem its only when it has gone cold after laying around all night or during the day thanks

Change glow plugs, at least test them
