hi,
I REPLACED THE PLUGS WITH IRIDIUMN, CHANGED THE AIR FILTER. PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER AND IT STARTED. I TOOK IT FOR A SHORT TEST DRIVE AND IT STARTED SKIPPING. I GOT IT HOME (LESS THAN A MILE TOTAL) BY THE TIME I GOT HOME AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD I SAW AND SMELLED SMOKE. I HAD FRIED THE 1ST COIL. I REPLACED IT AND I DO HAVE POWER, BUT NONE TO THE PLUGS. I DO NEED TO TELL YOU THE REASON FOR THE FRYING IS I FORGOT TO PLUG IN THE CONNECTOR WIRE ANT THE BACK LEFT SIDE WHERE THERE IS A CLAMPED HOUSING, I WOULD IMAGINE FOR VENTILLATION. INSIDER THAT HOUSING ON THE REMOVABLE COVER IS A SENSOR. THE SHORT OF IT IS I HAVE CK ENGINE LIGHT AND KEY SENSOR LIGHT IS ON THE DASHBOARD. I THINK IT JUST NEEDS TO BE RESET? PLEASE ADVISE.
RON IN TROUBLE.

Hi Ron, Thank you for the donation. There are many variants of the engine and each has different layouts so I would need you to provide me the details. 1. Engine capacity. 2. Turbo. 3. Number of cylinders. 4. Is it possible to attach a photo of the sensor that you are refering to? I suspect it to be the camshaft sensor. I have a pic of the cam sensor for a 2.5, is it the same?

Since Check Engine Light (CEL) is on, you would need a scanner to retrieve the Diagnostic Trouble ( DTC) code to verify source of problem.

IN REPLY THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE! SORRY ABOUT THE MEGAR DONATION, BUT THAT'S ALL I HAD AVAILABLE ON MY BANK CARD. ITS A SHAME I KNOW. HOWEVER, I HOPE THE ABOVE INFO IS HELPFUL. THE PHOTO PROVIDED IS NOT THE SAME AS MY SETUP, BUT I BELIEVE YOU ARE RIGHT. THERE ARE CODES THAT NEED TO BE CLEARED IN ORDER TO GET THE ENGIN RUNNING RIGHT. I AM HAVEING IT TOWED TO VW IN THE MORNING AND I JUST HOPE THAT I DIDN'T FRY ANYTHING ELS. I DID THINK THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING THAT COULD BE DONE TO RESET EVERYTHING WITHOUT THE DEALER COMPUTER. I DID WATCH A MECANIC RESET THE COMPUTER BY USING THE KEY, GEARSHIFT AND CLUTCH, BUT I CAN'T REMEMBER THE SEQUENCE.
