Crankshaft sensor location?

I am buying the car listed above it is a five speed. I was told the crank sensor needed to be replaced. It got replaced and now it will not start. I was told it was the computer failed due to the crank sensor problem. Does this sound right?

This sounds like you need to recheck the sensor and connector you could have a defective sensor here is the location. It is called an engine RPM sensor. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

So your saying if I got a new ECM for it it would have to be programmed by a dealer to make it work?

Yes, programming it to the vehicle ID number is the first step, then you'll need to diagnose the real cause of the crank / no-start and perform that repair.

About a year ago car wouldn't start. Changed fuel pump and car worked ok. Changed the MAF with an aftermarket part. Worked better.

About six months ago I put fuel injector cleaner in gas. Seemed to improve.

3 months ago car wouldn't start. Changed fuel filter. Worked but still hesitated on acceleration.

1 1/2 months ago I put more fuel injector cleaner in car. Drove about 60 miles and seemed to lack power. Then that car would stall. Would take a few attempts to start and would drive fine for about 2 miles. It would go through this cycle. Changed fuel filter and car wouldn't run. Changed vacuum sensor. No luck. Changed crankshaft position sensor and put in a Bosch MAF sensor and at first car wouldn't run. Then car ran fine. Filled gas tank to full and car stalled.

Yesterday, using starter fluid got car running. Now car idles fine and doesn't stall but hesitates when accelerating. Today I changed the spark plugs with no improvement.

Solution?

Have you checked fuel pump pressure? Also, have you checked the idle air control valve?

I haven't checked those. The next thing I was going to change is my coil pack and my 02 sensor. My car has had a P0420 code for a while now but because of other minor things, I haven't taken care of it. That is why I was going to change my 02 sensor.
Any thoughts on these or should I start with checking the pump pressure and the air idle control valve?

I would check the pressure because it is free and may be a problem for you.

I threw a p0343 code from my odb2 tool. Just need to know where it is located.I found a lot of 1.8 turbo locations as well as 2.0 locations.I just don't want to tear apart anything unnecessary trying to find the fandangled part

The crankshaft position sensor on the AAA engine is located on the "intake" side of the engine block, near the flywheel.

For the 1.8T, the sensor is located near the oil filter, set back into a small alcove just above the oil pan and between the oil filter and the end of the engine block nearest the transmission. It's easiest to reach it from below.

We are having a problem when we drive out 99 1/2 vw jetta 5spd. When temp reaches its normal point and we shut it off to go do something come back out it doesnt start back up for hr. We put it on a scanner and they said it was the speed sensor and the crankshaft positin sensor to change the speed one first then the other. But we called vw and they said the computer isnt showing a part nummber so they cant find it so I need to find a part nummber for each so I can call vw back up and tell them then they can find it. Three computer only showing hte sensors and they dont know which one.

What is the 8th letter of the VIN number? That's the engine code. My computer isn't showing a part number either but I have other avenues I can use but I need that 8 digit in the VIN. Get back with me and I'll do my best to get you a part number.

I replaced the crank sensor 2 months ago and 5 days ago it stalled while driving and won't start why would the crank sensor go bad again so soon?

It should not fail this soon. It may be a defective part or there is another problem.

If the throttle body is dirty or faulty the car will stall or not even start. Sometimes the ECU will set a fault code for the crank sensor when it stalls even if the sensor is working properly.
