Help needed Corsa has cut out

Have a vauxhall corsa 1.2 n reg I it has just passed mot last month thought everything was going fine then yesterday I started the car fine for 2 mins then it cut out. The petrol is ok as there is half tank so went to a mate he said there is no spark coming from it it might be electrical fault he thought he had narrowed it down from the coil to the distrubuter cap so I renowed the coil all the leads and the dustrubuter cap and still nothing the car turns over but nothing. Was wondering if anyone had this before or if there is a electrician on here who might be able to narrow it down I am going to garage in morning to try and get it sorted but also I am supposed to be going on hoilday with the girlfriend in morning for a week and driving but now cant for now so need this sorting

also know nothing much about cars but my mate came checked if they were sparking they was not I said would it be spark plugs he said no just took his word for it might it be them?

the way he tested to see if there was a spark he unplugged the wire from the spark plug put his sparkplug in the end put it on the enging then turned it over he said there should be s spark coming from it when I turn it over and it is touching the engine is this right I dont know?
my car is a vauxhall 1.2 corsa merit 90,000 miles n reg passed mot 2 months ago also had a new alternater fitted 3 months ago this has never happened before untill now it just sounds as though the car is out of petrol it turns fine but no spark
