Transmission is slipping?

Tranmission was slipping in drive, did not slip when overdrive was turned off. Also did not slip in 2nd gear took it to dealer where truck was bought new and said transmission needs to replaced at a cost of approx. $2500. That includes a 3 yr. 100,000 mile warranty. What are some of my options? Thank you!

most likely time for the trans to slip is when the OD is on. THat is when the transmission is under the heaviest load. If they are slipping, there really isn't anything to do other than do a general overhaul with new clutch plates.

I wish I had better news, but that really is the only option. If you want to try to save a few bucks, you may be able to find a good trans in a salvage yard. But then you'll lose the warranty they are offering you which is good.

I put my automatic into drive and go but after about two minutes it slips out of drive like its in neutral. I put it into second and it runs fine. What may be my problem? Do I need to replace my transmission?

My SUV will only go up to forty mph then it slips like I have got it in neutral. It did this once before but then just went away. Now it is back again. My husband thinks it is the transmission itself. I do not. I put two 24 fl oz bottles of Lucas transmission slip oil fix in transmission and still have this problem. My service engine light is on but there is no codes when I hookup the code reader. I want to say it is either my battery terminals are bad. Or it is a solenoid. My husband thinks I am crazy and lost my mind. Please I need to go on something here. I cannot afford the shops so I do a lot of it myself.

From your description as well as miles on vehicle I would say it is a transmission. What has happened is the clutch paks are worn or the seals are bad. I would bet that the transmission fluid is either dark brown or black which is not a good sign at all. I have never seen the additives rarely work to fix things and normally it is too late for that anyhow.

I can put transmission in gear take off and once I get to 35 or so it's like it slips out of gear and I have to stop and turn it off for a few seconds then it will go again just to repeat itself.

I would start by changing the fluid and filter in the transmission. If the filter is clogged it will cause this exact issue.

Fluid Pan, Gasket and Filter
1. Normal maintenance requires periodic automatic transmission fluid changes. If a major repair, such as a clutch, band, bearing, etc., is required, the automatic transmission will also have to be removed for repair. At this time, the torque converter, transmission cooler and tubes must be thoroughly flushed to remove any dirt. The transmission fluid needs to be changed if evidence of fluid contamination is found. When used under continuous or severe conditions, the transmission and torque converter should be drained and refilled with fluid as specified.

2. CAUTION: Use of a fluid other than specified could result in transmission failure.

Refer to the vehicle certification label affixed to the LH front door lock face panel or door pillar for the transmission code.
3. When filling a dry transmission and torque converter, refer to Specifications for capacity. Check the fluid level.

Removal
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. Raise and support the vehicle.
3. Place a drain pan under the transmission fluid pan.

4. Drain transmission fluid.
Loosen the transmission fluid pan bolts and allow fluid to drain. After fluid is drained remove the bolts.

5. Remove the (A) transmission fluid pan and (B) transmission fluid pan gasket.

6. Pull down evenly and remove the transmission fluid filter, seal and filter kit.

7. Remove torque converter housing plug.

8. Remove the torque converter drain plug and drain the torque converter.
Rotate the crankshaft to access the drain plug.

9. Clean and inspect the (A) transmission fluid pan, (B)transmission fluid pan gasket and (C) magnet.
10. Flush the fluid cooler tubes.

Have a 98 expedition with a new motor and rear end in it, but when shifting between 3rd to 4th gear(up or down) it seems to slip a bit, the check engine light is not on, the engine does not misfire, I dont know the history of the tranny, but im wondering if a new filter/flush would help get rid of the problem, also is it possible to take the tranmission from my 2wd truck with the same motor and pretty much enverything else, and put it into this expedition that is 4wd, I heard that the output shaft would have to be changed but I would like to know if its do able becuase the 2wd tranny was rebuilt 2 years ago

Chances are the trans service won't help. On the other hand, does the trans slip once it is fully into 3rd or 4th gear? If not, most likely the 3-4 shift solenoid is going bad and causing a slow / soft shift. Have that checked first.

As far as the other trans, yes the tail housing needs changed to fit the transfer case, but I don't recommend it. The newer trans is designed differently with different sensors and design. Chances are the sensors from the old transmission won't work. Also, we only recommend direct fit parts because of the problems that occurr when you change from year to year.

Im noticing the transmission is slipping when its shifting from 3rd to fourth gear. Is this because the transmission is bad?

Make sure the fluid is full and clean. It should be a translucent pinkish color. Also, have you ever had the transmission serviced? Finally, has the check engine light ever come on?

Based on your description, it sounds like one of the clutch packs has worn and causing a slip, but let me know about the questions I asked. Also, when you check the trans fluid, see if it has a burnt smell to it.

I Seem To Be Having A Problem When From Full Stop And Excelerating While Shifting From First To Second There Is A Jerk When Going Into Second.
This Is The Only Time I Have Problems With The Transmission.
Checking The Trans Fluid It Looks Great, No Burnt Smell And Clear,
I Took It To A Local Transmission Place They Pulled The Pan And Found No Traces Of Gears In The Pan, No Metal Shavings,
They Changed The Filter And New Fluid But Problem Still Remains The Same.

I Am Afraid To Take It To The Dealer As The Last Time I Had I Had It There They Wrecked It On The Side And Did Not Even Tell Me, I Did Not Even Notice It till I Got Home,
Needless I Took It Back And Found The Wall They Hit And Demand They Fix It.
I Was Without The Truck For A Week While They Repaired It. I HAD TO PAY FOR A RENTAL DURING THAT TIME, LOL
Any Information On What This Could Be?

I dont seee any bulletins on the 1-2 upshift being harsh, just for a delayed 2nd gear. Im not a transmission guy, but it could be a sticky accumualtor or shift solenoid that is going bad. A good trans shop should be able to figure it out without having to go to the dealer
