Transmission problem
1984 Toyota Supra 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 144000 miles

If I do a leisurely acceleration I seem to go from 1st to 3rd and skip 2nd all together. If I " floor it", I will usually get 2nd gear unless I'm into a turn which has the car a bit slower and then no 2nd gear again. I can however, while in 3rd, ease of the pedal slightly and the car downshifts back into 2nd. Basically, because of the jump from 1st to 3rd (maybe even 4th) my acceleration even with the pedal to the floor is very slow since the rpm's are so low. Could it be cable(s) related? Any help would be appreciated.
