Window quit working

My driver side window quit working and literally almost fell out of the door. When Toyota looked at it, they said the motor had gone out, which was under warranty, but the glass 'tab' was broken, which was not under warranty and would cost me almost $300 to fix. Does this sound right? Apparently the glass tab is in the glass itself. Do I have any recourse here?

I would argue that if the motor is warranted so should the switches, track, and other associated parts.

Contact Toyota directly and complain, and have them show you (in writting) what is not covered.

If you have an extended warranty that is bumper to bumper, the window is between the bunpers :).

I own a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The front passenger window doesn't work all the time. It will sometimes but not others. I need it to work for inspection. The mechanic said it would be almost 300.00 to install a new motor for the window. Is this a common problem with the Corolla? Is there a cheaper fix than this?

Trouble shoot the power AND ground leads from the door harness to the door control pannel. You will have to remove the door pannel from the door frame to do this. A test light, some jumper leads are all you will need. Try looking for a broken wire in the door hinge area. You can also test the window motor by hooking up direct, the instructions are on this websight under do it yourself.

My toyota corolla with 60K has an electrical problem. The power windows do not go up or down on any of the 4 windows. This just started yesterday right after I turned on the car. At this same time I lost all electrical power to my dash board guages, the radio, the a/c, power door locks, etc. Now, I can still turn the car on and drive it but that's about it.

Also the alternator is not charging the battery, so I don't know if the alternator is bad, making everything not turn on or if there is something causing the alternator to not charge.

I took my car to the dealer and they said the main power window switch was burned out which caused a bunch of relays to blow. This explains the other eletrical components not working.

Until I replace the power window switch(which costs $420ish-oem), I have to leave the p/w switch disconnected in order for the other items to work. I hope this helps someone else who may have the same issue.

2002 Automatic Toyota Corolla drivers side window will not go up. When I press the drivers side button the window will not work. It does not make any noise but almost like it does not get the signal. The other windows are working. I put the window all the way down when it was very wet and snowy out. Is there a fuse or how do you fix it?

This could be either the switch or the motor has gone bad. It is not a fuse because the other windows work. Here are two guides that can help you see what the problem is and if it is the motor how to replace it. I also included the window wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works.

and

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what you find.

Cheers

3 of the power windows stopped working 2 years ago. Yesterday the drivers window finally stopped working, of course it stopped in the down postion just as it started to rain. Checked all fuses and they appears fine but the ones behind the change compartment don't identify a fuse for the power windows so I checked them all. Pulled out master switch in door and cleaned contacts. Can't locate the fuse relay for the power windows. Can you tell me where it's located? I've looked online and can't seem ti find a diagram.

The description of the symptoms don't point to a fuse or a relay. Start by looking for a broken or frayed wire between the door hinges. You should also test for power at the switches to see if it is making it that far

Read the guide below it will help

Check for voltage at switch, if none and fuses are ok then it is an open wire to switch. If power is there, then motor is bad or limit switch, in which case you would have to remove the door panel and replace motor or limit switch. May also be that the connector to the motor has worked loose or is broke.

If the window is binding, then you must find out why, could be a loose regulator.

Another problem is the upper and lower limit switch, if not working they will cause motor to overheat.

I have a 1998 toyota corolla LE, the problem is that the driverside, my side, switch doesn't work for the windows, but works for the locks. But all of my other window switches around the car work. And my switch isn't the problem, i've swapped it and still got the same problem. Could it be a wiring issue of some sort? Or could it be a fuse?

Look at the wires as they pass through the door to the inside of the car, where they bend is the place the normally break. They will be concealed by eiter a rubber boot, or a metal cover plate. The boot can be pulled out of either the door, or the car body to inspect the wires.

Check to see that it doesn't work from the drivers control and from the rear door control. If not, then sometimes if the rear windows are rarely used they'll get stuck. Rap firmly on the door while attempting to roll the window down will sometimes dislodge it. Also, an easy way to check for power to the window is to watch he dome light when you attempt to put the window down, it should dim slightly especially if he window is stuck
