The wipers got a metal rod hooked to the motor. Since the motor is still running, maybe the rod got unhooked.

Automatic 150,000 miles

Hello,

My car's wipers have suddenly stopped working. Three days back there was a heavy snowfall followed by very low temperature. Ice was rock hard over wiper blades and I tried to turn on wipers to clean the windshield. There was a loud click like sound and since then wipers are not working. Is there any home remedy to repair this dysfunction? Though I can manually move wipers to clean windshield. When I manually place wiper blades on the middle of the windshield and then try to power on wipers, there is annoying clicking sounds as if something is trying to hold the wipers in place against the force.

I thank you very much in advance for your suggestions.

Check to see if there is power at the electrical connector. If so, then probably a mechanical problem with the wiper transmission. You could get a used one at a junk yard. If no power, then a fuse or relay.
Get a Haynes manual, it will help with the repair and diagnosis.

This issue is happening some times only, not always. When it is rain and cloudy, on switching on my car engine, Windshield wipers are switching on automatically, while driving it is going off and after some time while using breaks or accelerator again it is starting. If it is sunny day it is working fine. I am not sure what will be the cost. I need a Quote how much will be cost for problem identification and repair.

First you have to identify the problem before the cost can be assesed. It sounds like a bad electrical connection that when wet is causing intermittent contact.

You will have to take to garage and find problem first, then get a quote.

It may be the entire cowl has to be removed and re-sealed, or simply replace a faulty connector.

If you turn on the wipers and the motor works, but the blades do not work, you will have to remove the wiper transmission/linkage under the cowl. Look for rust/binding.
It is also possible the connection to the motor is loose causing a bind.
