Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Manual 177800 miles

I just recently bought a 97 Toyota Corrolla and have been using it for the last 2 weeks. I changed the oil and flushed the radiator about a week ago. This morning as I was driving, I pushed in the clutch to downshift while braking and the car shut off. Now it will not start. It sound like the starter is spinning but not engaging the engine. Double checked all fluids and they are fine. Battery seems good. Any other suggestions?

Hi fnxracing,

You need to isolate the cause of the problem.
1. Check/test for sparks at plugs when cranking.
2. Remove air intake hose and pump some starting fluid into throttle body and try to start.
Test for fuel pressure at fuel rails.
3. Do a compression test if both the above don't work. It might be a broken timing belt.
