engine smokes for ten seconds each day on first start up and does not smoke for rest of the day, running or starting. Will changing oil from 5w30 to 10w40 help? Why is it smoking and what can I do

What color are the smokes? I would consider changing the oil to synthetic blend high mileage oil 5w30 or 10w30 for better protections and lubrications for older engine. Also, check the PCV valve, check PCV hose for weakness or oil contaminates.
