Air conditioner not working

When I turned on my AC yesterday, it may a loud grumbling noise when turned on high. It's as if the noise gets louder as the AC is turned up higher. I've had considerable AC problems not working Any ideas?

Hi there, If this noise is just with the A/C on i would be checking the clutch on the compressor and the adjuster pulley bearing as a first place to look.

I have a 1993 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder 330,000 miles on it. The heater works, but when I push the button for the A/C it only comes on for few seconds, and then the button starts blinking and the A/C only blasts hot air. I also hear a noise that's not clicking but continuous screeching that doesn't stop even if I turn off the A/C. I've taken it to a mechanic, and they said that the Compressor didn't have any oil. They filled it with oil, checked it and said there weren't any leaks. There's also a good amount of Freon in the car, so they said that wasn't the problem. They also changed the belt to a new one that I had bought because the old one was torn and burnt.
I was wondering what could be any possible reasons/solutions?

This definitely sounds like a belt or pulley issue so the best way to find this is to remove the belt and run the engine and see if it is gone. If it is is then since the belt is new it is most likely a pulley. At that point, you want to reinstall the belt and spray some WD 40 on a pulley one at a time to see when it quiets down. This would indicate the failed pulley bearing.

The A/C stopped working and we have it hooked up directly so we have a switch to turn on and off for the AC. But the AC stopped and now we do not know what is wrong with it. We do not know if it the compressor or the cable or the fuse box. Also, where is the fuse box inside the car?

Did you wire power directly to the compressor?

If you did, where did you get the power source?

Did you verify power to the compressor with your switch.

I attached a wire diagram for you to view. Check all your fuses with a test light for power on both sides with the key on.

Did you verify Freon in the system?

I think it is the A/C controller inside the car where the A/C button is not getting power.

The next step is to verify the clutch is engaged.

If it is, then we need to check the pressures. Do you have gauges to verify pressures?

Air conditioner does not turn on at all.
Switch does not light up.
But switch stays down when I turn it on, but no light does not turn on.

You need to get the system refrigerant charge pressure tested. If very low the low pressure cut out switch will activate and shut the system down. You may have a leak that needs to be rectified. Get this looked at first.

I had to have the radiator replaced in Camry and the mechanic told me I would have to have the A/C flushed and refilled also. Why would I need to have that done also?

Hi there,

There is no reason to do this, all they need to do is make sure that the condenser is not blocked externally with leaf litter and bugs, you just need to ensure good air flow through he condenser.

The ac pulley on my friends 97 toyota camry seized up the other day so we decided to remove the ac pump. After some searching I found that O'Reilly sold a belt for that year that said it bypassed the ac pulley. But now the air won't blow at all hot or cold. We disconnected the 2 lines coming out of the pump and a plug on the ac and removed the whole unit. But now no air.

I would think it has nothing to do with what you did. Check all the fuses for the blower motor

One of the vent doors has jammed, this is up under the dash and I would suggest that you get a mechanic to inspect this to confirm the diagnoses.
