I own a 1997 Toyota 4Runner w/ 135,000 miles and a automatic V6 engine. I just noticed a noise in the front end and it sounds like my tires are spinning on ice, the noise really gets loud going up hill and any speed under 50 mph. It seems like I have lost power but maybe it is me just not stepping on the gas because the noise makes me really nervous. It is almost like a high pitched whistle and right before it shifts up the noise gets really bad and once it does the noise cuts out a little until the next shift up. I have been told it could be the transmission, torque converter, or the fan clutch. I am so confused and would really appreciate some help.
