1989 Subaru XT 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 102000 miles
i was driving my car last week, and at stoplights i always put it in neutral. well, my floor mat stuck the pedal down and the engine sat at 7000 rpm for about two seconds before i could get the mat out. after that, the car won't shift up past second gear and the engine won't rev up past 4200 rpm, no matter what gear its in (not even neutral.) my friends told me that it's in "limp-in mode", to get it to a shop before it gets worse. the problem is that i don't have an odb-1 reader, and only about 400 bucks to pay for a repair. i don't want to take it in if i don't have to, so what could i have broken that would put it in "limp-in mode?"
