My mechanic replaced my head gasket on my 1999 Subaru Outback and the car is still overheating and the coolant is bubbling. Now he wants to replace the water pump and head of the motor. What is the likely hood of the overheating problem being solved if this path is followed? I am growing poorer and losing patience with the car. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Your mechanic should have known what was causing the overheating before replacing anything, usually a failed head gasket is the result of overheating issue, NOT the cause of overheating. If he is certain the water pump is bad then it will need replaced but the head should have been tested for warpage and cracks when he was replacing the head gasket.
