When I try to start the van it will start for about 1 to 2 seconds then shuts off. It has all new distributor cap and bug plugs and wires, coil, and ignition control module and a new fuel pump but still shuts off immediately after starting.

Good evening,

Is the theft or security light on? Sounds like it is in lock out.

I attached a guide to reset the security system. Try that and let me know if that was it.

Okay, you say the pass-lock okay. What started the problem is my ignition key would not turn so I had to drill it out and put a new key tumbler in it. Well then I finished and went to start the van it would only start for a second and shut off. This happen before and I replaced the distributor cap and bug plugs, the plugs and wires and it fired right up and then the key happen and here I am.

Good.

This sounds like it starts in the start position but turns off it the run position. This tells me the ignition switch may be the issue.

I have some more information for you. When I drilled out the key tumbler and replaced it I replaced it with a new tumbler from my 1996 Chevrolet Silverado pickup it slipped right in and mechanically worked like the old one. Is there something in the actual key tumbler for the van that this tumbler does not have? Because I noticed buying one it starts at $2,000.00 and goes up and the one I used is from a 1996 the key even looks different.

It has a transponder for security. You stated the theft or security light is not on?

Does it come on with the key and go out after about 10 seconds?

Hello Roy, my van has some kind of aftermarket something that is spliced into the ignition switch harness. Can I take it all out when I put the new switch in the van?
