A/C will not blow cold air only hot. Good Freon pressure, A/C clutch does not engage. Check fuse and relay both okay. So confused?

Have you checked to see if the a/c fuse in the underhood fuse box is good? Also does the engine cooling fan come on when you turn the a/c on?If you know the system is fully charged with 24 ozs then get a multimeter or test light when the a/c is on and see if you have power to the compressor.

THis guide will help

Let me know what you find.

Checked all fuses and relay and they were good. Good power input side of compressor. Is there possibly a HVAC relay switch which could be bad before replacing the compressor?

So you have power to the a/c clutch and the compressor doesn't come on?If so you have a bad clutch does the center of the a/c clutch move freely? If so then you can probably just change the clutch to save some money. You could also get a used compressor from pick a part or a junk yard to save money.

We tried to charge system and it wouldn't take freon, put it on vacuum gauge, and adjusted high and low pressure. Both gauges read normal now, still will not cool. Can you please advise me, as what to check or do. It was cooling prior and now only blows hot airs. Heater works fine.

Thank you,

Sincrely,

Margaret Shields

How did you adjust the high and low pressures? What are the high and low pressure readings and what was the outside temp and humidity when you checked the pressures?Yes it matters what the outside temp and humidity was its in the repair manual so you can see if the pressures are correct. Is the low side on the a/c compressor getting hot and high side hose getting cold?Iam talking about the metal part of the hose that comes off the a/c compressor before it becomes rubber.

Just to add to this one why did you replace the ac compressor? Also did you balance the oil from the old compressor to the new compressor? How much r134 did you put in?What are your high and low pressures with the compressor running at idle?Does the radiator fan run with the ac compressor running?Have you checked the ac condensor and radiator for debris in the fins like sand bags etc blocking the air flow coming thru it?

A/C blower works - just not cold air - would a blwon fuse be the cause - if so which one in the fuse box?
Is it the large rectancle shaped box fuse?

I doubt it's just a blown fuse but u can check in that rectanglar box under the hood which is called ur unhood junction box it will be labeled a/c. Then u can turn on ur a/c by starting up ur car turn on ur inside blower fan press ur a/c button and see if ur radiator cooling comes on and if the middle of ur a/c clutch is spinning. Let me know what u find.

How did you balance the oil charge in the ac compressor? Also you put in three 12 oz cans of charge? If so your overcharged by 12 ozs the system only holds 24 ozs or 1.5 lbs of charge. Also what are the actual high and low pressures not just there good?

Hi,

My a/c went out during the winter sometime, and I bought a recharge kit (it's a retro-fitted R34) and tried to recharge the freon. I evacuated the system, what was left of it anyway, and with the car running and a/c on, tried to recharge but it wouldn't take it. The compressor wasn't running. Any ideas?

First of all thank you so much for your donation. Are you sure you have a 1994 saturn you said it's retrofited to R134a they all came factory with R134a. Are you trying to charge it on the hose closest to the exhaust manifold thats the low side thats where you should be charging it. If you have all the hose's hooked up correctly and the can is pierced right then it should charge. The compressor should be off if there isn't any charge in the system. The high low switch shuts off the compressor if there is too little or too much pressure in the system. Lets try this make sure the a/c fuse in your underhood fuse box is good. Then find your high low/ switch which is screwed on your a/c line over by your underhood fuse box. It has two wires going to it with the a/c on unplug the connector you may have to remove a saftey lock on it first. Then jump across the two terminals with a paper clip your a/c compressor should come on with your radiator cooling fan. Don't jump it long just long enough to see if those two items come on. Let me know what you find and the answers to my questions.

Sorry, my boyfriend told me it was retrofitted, but it must not be. I think I got a bad can, because I used the second can and it let me use it and the compressor started up. However, now it is blowing warm air- not cold. The fuses are good. I re-checked pressure after 5 minutes and it was almost 45psi. Good, right? I'm not sure what the problem is now. Is this normal? Does it just take a while of running to get cold? We let it run for almost 15 minutes. No change. Still just warm.

I think I may have inadvertently gotten air in the system. Oops. Its reading correct pressures but not blowing cold air. Can I vacuum the system myself somehow?

Does the radiator fan come with the A/C on?How many ozs of charge did you put in system so far?It takes 24ozs to fully charge it.45psi is too high for the low side it should be under 30psi. To vaccuum the system you would have to drain all the charge out of the system and get a a/c vaccuum pump for cars to pull a vaccuum on the system. Let me know how much charge you have in the system.
