I have a 98 Saturn SC2 with 96,000 miles on it. I recently started hearing a ticking sound coming from the engine. I don't hear it when cruising down the highway, but when I start slowing down (30 miles or so), I hear it and it slows down as I do. I looked up some info. About this and others are saying it's the timing chain. Is there a way to confirm that it's the chain? I don't want to pay the $850 to repair it unless absolutely necessary. Could someone help with this or let me know what else it could be? I've already checked by brake pads and calipers, plus I have new cross drilled rotors, which are in excellent condition, so it has nothing to do with the brakes.

Thanks in advance for your help.
