Problem. Electric windows will not always open or close. When this happens the only way to get the window to open or close is to keep rocking the window switch up and down and eventually the window will open or close. The problem is intermittent on all 4 windows. Sometimes the windows operate as normal for a month or two then give problems for a few weeks then return to normal operation.
New window switches have been fitted and tested for electrical resistance before being fitted.
New Bosh relays fited. Two per window.
What we know;
If the wiring is disconnected at the window drive motor wire connectors the drive motor will always go up and down using 12v direct power supply from the battery and earth back to the battery, the window motors always work correctly.
With all loom wiring connected and working the window switch the up and down the relays can be heard and felt to be working and there is no voltage drops in the wiring to the relays. There is no resistance in the earth return wiring. Just to make sure we have added an additional earth wiring to a separate chassis earth and left the original in place.
When the window does not go up, if one removes the Open Relay then replaces it using the Close Relay the window will enviably but not always open or close on the fist push of the window switch.
Hope someone can enlighten on how to fix the problem.
Thanks for your time and best regards
