Electrical problem
2004 Pontiac Montana 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 88000 miles

I ran out of gas while on vacation. After refueling my fuel gauge no longer works properly. It reads sometimes full, then almost empty, or somewhere in between. It is different evey time I start the engine, regardless of the amount of fuel I have put in the tank.
Also the digital readout of miles til empty is doing the same erratic behavior. The van runs fine and has no other issues.
What could cause this and is there a way to reset these gauges?
