Just recently, I noticed on my 2004 Grand AM GT (63,000 miles) 6 cyl - that when I turn off the car. My radio stays on when the keys are out of the ignition and the door is shut. I open and close the door and it still stays on. Any ideas?

If your 2004 Pontiac Grand Am's radio continues to stay on even after the keys are out of the ignition and the door is shut, there might be an issue with the ignition switch or a related component. Here are some potential reasons and steps to diagnose the problem:

Ignition Switch Issue: The ignition switch is responsible for sending power to various electrical components, including the radio. If the ignition switch is faulty or worn out, it might not be fully turning off the radio when you remove the keys.

Door Ajar Switch Problem: Many vehicles have a door ajar switch that detects when a door is open or closed. If the switch is malfunctioning or not making proper contact, it may not trigger the radio to turn off when the door is closed.

Radio or Accessory Relay Issue: There could be an issue with the relay that controls power to the radio or other accessory circuits. A faulty relay might keep the radio on even when it's supposed to be off.

Ignition Cylinder Issue: The ignition cylinder, where you insert the key, could be worn or damaged, causing it not to disengage fully when you remove the key.

Here's what you can try to diagnose the issue:

Verify Ignition Position: When you turn off the car, make sure the ignition switch is in the "OFF" position, not just in the "Accessory" or "On" position. Sometimes the ignition switch can get stuck in the wrong position.

Check Door Ajar Switch: Ensure that the door ajar switch is functioning correctly. Open and close each door one by one and observe if the interior lights respond accordingly. If you notice any door not triggering the interior lights, it could indicate a problem with the door ajar switch.

Inspect the Ignition Cylinder: Examine the ignition cylinder for any signs of wear, damage, or sticking. If you suspect an issue with the ignition cylinder, consider having it checked and possibly replaced by a professional.
