Hi. I have a 94 Pontiac Grand Am with approx. 166600 miles; however that is what the odometer reads. This is actually the second motor for this car and it was put in 5 years ago. The car has had only one previous owner and they took good care of it. The question I have is this: Why does my car shut off after too many stops and starts? If I am in city traffic, and go through too many consecutive red lights or too many twists and turns, the car will stall when I slow down or come to a stop. It actually shakes and shuts off if I am in Drive. If I shift to Neutral, it will stay on. My ABS light also comes on sometimes before or after this occurs and sometimes, it does not come on at all. Also, my temp. Gauge goes up if I am idling in traffic for too long up near 220 most of the time. If I am on an open road, it goes down. The car has had the same mechanic for 12 years, but he says he finds nothing wrong with it. I say he is wrong. Can anyone help me with this? I am tired of sitting on the side of the road waiting for my car to rest before I can move again. I have actually had to wait for at least an hour before it would start.
