My 1996 firebird formula 5.7 liter V-8, automatic w/air began overheating and losing fluid. I found a leaky hose and replaced it. The water pump began leaking and it was replaced. It was still losing fluid. I replaced the radiator. It still overheats and loses fluid. I had it checked for exhaust gases in the radiator and there were none. A pressure test revealed no leaks. The overheating usually starts when idling, and when the engine revolutions are increased to about 2000 it cools somewhat. I wonder if the drive mechanism for the waterpump could be slipping? How would I go about checking this. There is a shaft coming out of the front of the engine coupled to the water pump. What drives this shaft, and could it be slipping, or is it gear driven? Thanks
have the same problem?
