2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 59000 miles
The last couple of times I tried starting Olds silhouette Van 2001 starter would not turn--also no lights, displays, clicks from door locks, anything. In one case, suddenly lights came back on spontaneously, and eventually I could restart it. Next time, I could not start again and there was no evidence of any battery power to anything as before. AAA jump started it easily. Took it back where battery installer (8 mo old only) tested battery, found it OK on an extensive stress test. Some people there thought I had an intermittent ground problem--possibly battery cable ground. Said that would explain how I could jump start car, but not always start from battery. These people were very careful, took lots of time but did not have the mechanic or test equipment that evening to look further. My lights also flicker a little when car is running. I first thought this problem was security Pass Key III system, but think probably that security light I got (only one time) was a symptom of a other electrical problems. Did not get a security light again with subsequent failures. Any thoughts? From postings I've heard check ground cable from engine to chassis, battery ground cable, etc. I think alternator is OK because car went hour and a half with headlights after being jump started.
