As I recall, the fuel filter sits along the right frame rail ahead of the rear wheel. Use a pair of line wrenches, (flare nut wrenches), to loosen the nut on the steel line. That nut is very soft metal and a regular open end wrench will usually round it off. Fuel is going to spray out but it won't be a lot. Wear safety glasses and keep your mouth closed! Push the other line further onto the filter, then compress the two plastic tabs inside the fitting. Pull the line off while those tabs are compressed.

Reverse the procedure with the new filter. Listen for the click of those plastic tabs to be sure that line is locked in place.

Hi, that is a maintenance issue. It won't hurt anything to replace once a year. There may be a mileage spec in your owners manual? If you wait until there are driveability issues because of fuel filter, you waited too long.

How do you release the plastic clip on the Fuel Filter on my 1997 Olds Cutlas? I can do the nut on the side coming out, but need to know how to release the plastice clip. Just want to make sure so I don't break something. My new Fuel Filter has a plastic clip on the one end. If I could get the old one off, I'm sure that it would all fit together.

You see the ears, one on each side, you squeeze those together, then pull. You need to make sure there is no pressure on the system, before you take anything loose. Loosen the gas cap, even then sometimes gas tries to run out of the lines, I just plug them with something till I'm ready to go back with the new filter.

As far as the quick connect fitting, I have taken them loose with a pair of needle nose pliers. I believe the auto store sells a cheap tool for releasing the fitting.
