My car has no power at all but the inside lights come on. A new key was programmed and when try to start it nothing happened. The locksmith guy said he saw a spark when I was trying to start it. Now it shows no key on the dash, and no light at all on the dash and on the radio, just the inside lights comes on. The lock and unlock don't work either, have to lock it manually. But when I lock it with the key the two arrow turn signal flashes.

Welcome to 2CarPros.

Where was the spark located? It sounds like it could be a ground issue. This guide can help us fix it

I am having a problem with the car battery being drained while not on. I have already checked everything to make sure it shuts off. I replaced the alternator just last year. Sometimes when you come to a stop, it will die as well and the only way that you can get it started back up is to be jumped off. Someone suggested that to me that it might be in need of spark plugs. Does this sound right?

I'd be getting your battery checked as if faulty it will cause the faults you describe, during extended idle the car is running on battery reserve capacity especially if you have a/c running.

I doubt it's your spark plugs as they would fail under heavy acce &l wot(wide open throttle) too.

Electrical problem
1992 Nissan Maxima 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 207K miles

I'm not sure what's going on?

Yesterday, while I was driving on the road my air conditioning & fans shuts off by itself. Light are dim. The car feels like about to stall. Slow acceleration when I step on it

Somehow, I made it back home. When I tried to start the car again. It wouldn't start. I drove to a retail store with my other newer car to get a brand new battery.

After installing the new battery last night. The car starts.
I drove for about 15 minutes today. The same thing happening again. The air conditioning shuts off, the cd shuts off. Feels like the car about to stall. Somehow I'm very lucky again to make it back home.

The problem I have now cannot be a dead battery or alternator. The new battery should last at least 2 weeks even if the alternator is dead.

What kind of problems do you think my car have?

Could you teach me or give me some idea on how to fix this problem?

Any help will be appreciated

thanks

Any check engine lights on? It still sounds like a bad alternator to me. If the alternator isn't charging the battery then the battery won't last two weeks. If you can take the alternator off the car and take it to your local auto parts store they can test it for free. Try that first.

The battery is brand new from yesterday. I only drove the car for 15 minutes

I think is probably the fuse. I'm going to change the fuse tomorrow and see

I tried to start the engine. It started and stalled like always, but when I tried to start it again I just heard a single click and that was it. I have no electrical power for lights or anything. I tried to jump start it with an suv, but all it did was turn over slightly and the cables attached to the suv's batter started to smoke alittle. I had the battery tested and it showed it having an excellent charge in it. I had just replaced the starter in it. We found the flywheel has some chipped teeth in it. Don't know if that has anything to do with the power loss, but what do you suggest it might be? Might I have to replace the starter again? It is rebuilt I thought it may have shorted out or is it a fuse. I have a digital multimeter I just don't know how to use it to check my fuses or use it period.I would appreciate your speculations!

Hi rjwilkes49,

The battery connections should be bad. Clean the terminals and try again. Check for loose or broken grounds to the engine from battery.

When you use jumpers cables that are too low in capacity, it would heat up and won't be able to provide enough power to crank the engine.

I have a 1993 Nissan Maxima, 180,000 miles, 6-cylinder.
I had a new flextube installed because my exhaust was loud, the next day the alternator went out. I had the alternator and battery replaced, but now when I turn off the car, everything shuts down. When I open the car door, the dome lights don't come on, nothing happens. When I turn the key to on, nothing comes on. My car starts, and then everything works properly, the radio, heater, lights, everything, but it is like I just installed a new battery because the clock resets to 12:00. My car has an anti-theft device and a couple of people suggested that maybe my computer just needs to be reset. Do you know what is wrong with my car? Do I need to get a diagnostic test ran?
