Engine Performance problem
1998 Nissan Maxima 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 150000 miles

Recently I went to start my car, and it didn't start. I figured it was a loose battery cable so I took it off cleaned everything didn't work, so I shut the hood and tried it again it started. I went on a trip got back and my car worked for two day now it won't start. All of the gauges come on when the key is turned but it won't turn over. It makes kind of a whirling clicky noise when I try to start it. The noise comes out of a part in the direct middle of the engine towards the back. They're are two rubber hoses that connect to the part that makes the noise and one power plug. I can't find what that part actually is, or if that woud even be the real problem. Any help? Thank you very much

Hi mtrube,

That should be the starter and it needs to be checked since it cannot cranks.
