The gas gauge fuel level started becoming erratic and not indicative of the actual fuel level. Then, it just started showing that the gas tank was empty regardless of fuel level. A mechanic shop said the code indicated it was the fuel sending unit. They replaced it and everything was fine for about a tank of gas (about a week and a half). Then the same thing happened. I took it back to the mechanic. The mechanic took it to the dealer for diagnosis. The dealer said it was the sending unit again, so the original mechanic again replaced it. It took about a tank of gas (about a week and a half) to fail again. The strange thing is that everything was working for a short while. So did the parts house provide 2 sending units that were both bad or is there something else that is causing this problem or is something causing the sending unit to quickly fail?
