Hello,

There are two different locations for the thermostat and there are two thermostats on the 4 cylinder engine here is a guide to show you what you are in for when doing the job.

Here are some diagram to show you where the locations are (below)

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers

Heater problem
2003 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 120000 miles

have been told that the '03 has two thermostats? Have located one but unable to locate the second.

Also when car is moving will heat the paasenger compartment, but when you sit still blows cold air. Am I in the right direction with replacing thermostats first before getting into the heat control system?

How do I replace the thermostat in a 2000 NIssan Altima? Is it difficult for someone who has done little mechanical work? Where do I find instructions?

Are your fan turning on? When it overheats are both upper and lower radiators hot? How long does it take before it overheats?

I'm not sure about the fans/radiators over heating.
I have noticed the temperature gauge moving to the red area. This happens when I drive on the expressway for about 20 minutes.

If you let the car idle at a stop does it still over heat? If so, do the fans turn on? How long has it been overheating for? Did you check your coolant level? Has anything been done to car recently?

Have you checked your coolant level? Without looking at the car, I would almost think that the thermostat is sticking or somekind of circulation problem.
