I have a 2007 Nissan Altima which recently the driver side window switch stopped rolling up the window automatically. When I hold on to the switch it rolls the window up but it also has a feature where the switch clicks when you pull it out all the way and you don't have to keep holding it, it also has the same feature for the window to roll down, that is still working. Is that caused by the switch on the door panel or could it be something else.

It could be a faulty switch. Try the initialization procedure to see if it works.

INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect battery minus terminal or power window main switch connector. Reconnect it after a minute or more.

2. Turn ignition switch ON.

3. Operate power window switch to fully open the window. (This operation is unnecessary if the window is already fully open)

4. Continue pulling the power window switch UP (AUTO-UP operation). Even after glass stops at fully closed position, keep pulling the switch for 3 seconds or more.

5. Inspect anti-pinch function.(If window is stopped by something before fully up, it will stop trying to roll up)

Here's a guide to check out, it will give you an idea of what to do

Hi mattjohnson,

Thank you for the donation.

The easiest way to test the motor is to remove the driver door master switch, unplug the wire connector.
Apply battery voltage to wires leading to the motor and grounding the other wire to work the motor

Reverse the polarity and the window should be going up/down. If it fails, the motor is bad or you have an open circuit between the wire harness and the motor.

Is your vehicle equipped with anti pinch for ONLY driver door or both front doors? They have different wire connectors and to get the correct wire identification, the correct system must be known.

I know more about cars than the average female (gasp, yes I'm a woman lol) but electrical issues always stump me (as they do to many mechanics I know hahaha).

The motor on the driver's side was replaced several months ago and it was working fine. And, before the motor went, it obviously started to go slower and slower until it just wouldn't work anymore. This time is different. It just stopped going up and down (of course with the window halfway down) without warning. All other power windows working fine - 50amp fusible link under the hood is OK (and I assume if this were blown, all windows would not be working)

#1 - is there a manual override for the power windows in these cars (somewhere where I can crank it closed with a hex wrench or something until I have time to troubleshoot)?

#2 - is this most likely in the power window switch for the driver's window? Ie loose connection, bad switch, etc?

#3 - if it is something with the switch for the window - can I replace ONLY the one for the driver's window or do I have to replace the whole assembly?

Thank you! I've donated to you guys in the past and am ever so grateful for your help before for my old POS Pontiac (had to change user names as well as I couldn't remember lol) and was very happy with the answers you gave.

I took the unit out of the door, took the assembly apart to expose the circuit board, cleaned out the circuit board with compressed air and checked all connections. Window is working fine now.

The key fob can be programmed to do several features as can the PCU for the lock/window system.
The Altima has a feature where you can hold the unlock button on the key fob down and the front windows roll down.
It is not cheap to get new fobs and have them programmed by a delership. Which is what you have to do as no one else has the codes to do so.
However it sounds like the PCU, (a small computer that controls a particular elctro-mechanical function), could also be at fault since it happens when you turn the car off.
Try going to a mechanich and seeing if checking for trouble codes with an OBD reader may make it easier to determine what is at fault.

Hello Gentlemen! I have a 2002 Nissan Altima V6 with 40, 00 miles on it. My car was broken into and they ripped off the driver side mirror and ruined the door handle. I was told by the body shop that they took the wire harness. When I first saw the car after it was broken into I found my front 2 windows down. The windows will sometimes roll up but then roll back down. This happens when I shut off the motor or it can happen even several minutes later-up to 20 minutes later. It is as if the windows are possessed. The car has been at the shop for 2 weeks and they tell me they cannot diagnose the problem, although they have replaced the wire harness and fixed the door handle. They say the battery is drained and the driver door motor is unusually hot. This shop, which is in Memphis, says they cannot help me. A Nissan place in Mississippi looked at it today and the car supposedly did not "act up" while they were looking at it, so they say they cannot help me. I really need some advice. I am paying for a rental out of pocket and I can't do it anymore, plus it rains a lot in Memphis. I must find a way to close the windows and keep them shut. Advice is greatly appreciated:) Regards

Your gonna need a shop that can troubleshoot this. Right up front, I don't know these folks, but would request Jeff to work on it. Based on the research I did for you,
I get nothing from this, but think I know enough to help

On newer vehicles that usually mean the window regulator is broken and will need replacement. To do this the door panel will need to be removed to gain access to the inside of the door. Use blue masking tape to tape thewindow up out of the way so you can remove and replace the window regulator, then reattach to window and it is done.

My 2000 Nissan Altima front passenger power window stopped working. Here is some background.

1) First the switch on the FRONT PASSENGER door would NOT raise the window. BUT. We could still raise or lower it using the main switch on the drivers door.

2) Now the right front passenger window is stuck in the down position because neither switch (passenger door switch AND main switch on drivers door) will raise OR lower the window.

3) All other windows work fine.

Before I start spending money on parts that don't need to be replaced, I would like to know if anyone has an idea whether this is a switch problem. OR.A connector problem (there are two connectors in the passenger door). OR. The window motor is dead?

Keep in mind that it seemed like a switch or connector problem at first since we could only raise the window using the switch on the drivers door.

Meanwhile, until I repair this, does anyone know how I can at least get the window raised so we're aren't driving around like dorks with duct tape and visqueen on the window?

I am handy and have changed power window motors twice before but I'm not a mechanic, so please keep that in mind. =; P

Thank you very much!

There is a seller on Ebay offers 98 - 01 Nissan Altima, Frontier, sentra, Xterra power window switch repair service for a pretty reasonable price. My brother got his repaired and it works like new since. Its worth trying rather than spending nearly $ 100 for a new switch.

My son has an 2005 Altima 3.5 with about 75K miles. Lately, when his windows are mysteriously lowering during the night. He has even gone to the step of locking the window switch. Any ideas what could turn the windows on without a key?

In case you didn't know, the key fob can be used to lower the windows remotely. You do this by pressing the unlock button once, and then press it again and hold it. Perhaps there is a malfunction in the key fob that could be causing this. If you feel it is, try removing the batteries of all the key fobs and see if that stops the problem.

One other way to put the windows up and down is to insert the key in the door lock, and turn it (and hold) to the right to put the windows up, and turn it (and hold) to the left to put the windows down.

Both of these methods only include the front driver and passenger windows.

I hope this helps you get some answers. If you still need help I can contact a Nissan mechanic I know to see if he's heard of that happening before. I just purchased a 2005 (2.5L though) Altima and I'm loving it!
