Noises problem
1998 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Automatic 150000 miles

The car is beginning to sound like a diesel and has a burning odor. I initially thought it was lack of oil, but after putting in the high mileage oil, it still has that diesel sound and the smell. It recently had been worked on about 2 weeks ago and they had replaced 3 Spark Plugs and an Oil Filter. Also, bought a new Timing Chain Kit, a new Head Gasket Set, a new Valve Cover Gasket set and Antifreeze. What could still be causing the burning odor and diesel sound?

Ummm.
I'm assuming you have a 2.4 engine.

There are 2 orings that need to be replaced when the front cover is removed.
If they missed that, there's your oil leak and burning smell.

The top timing chain guide is not supposed to be used as per a TSB from Nissan.
If they were not Nissan mechanics, they probably didn't know that.
That could be your noise.
