Engine Performance problem
1992 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive 90K miles
Hello, I have a Nissan Altima. I just had the alternator replaced not even a week ago. Then yesterday I was driving and I saw my temperature sky rocket. So I immediatly pulled over and had it towed to my mechanics office. They said I either blew my head gasket or I need a new engine. This engine was put in about 90,000 miles ago. I have been going to this shop for years and never felt " tricked". But last week there was a new youg man there and he was the one that did the work. I had been speaking with a coupl people in the field and someone told me that sometime a bad water pump will misdiagnosed as a bad alternator. Because the pulley is not spinning correctly from the water pump, which does not allow the alternator to work correctly, so they assume it is the alternator. But they should have checked all the pulleys to make sure that was the casue. Obviously it was not which is why the water pump seized and threw the belt not even a week later. Becasue that was the actual propblem, not the alternator. Is this true? Thank You!
