My car will not start and the "shift to P position to Start" message pops up even though its already in P position. Any advise?

The only thing we have to go on is the warning message. With no other test results or clues to analyze, the best suspect would be the neutral safety switch. On newer vehicles that is called the "transmission range sensor", and sends a signal to a computer. Your mechanic can connect a scanner to view what that computer is seeing from that sensor.
